Blackout to affect parts of 5 counties on Monday, August 18

Kenya Power has announced planned power maintenance that will affect parts of five counties on Monday, August 18, 2025. The move is aimed at carrying out essential upgrades and repairs to the electricity network to ensure improved reliability for consumers.

In Nairobi County, the blackout will affect parts of Kitsuru from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas expected to experience power outages include Kinanda Road, ISK, Kirawa Road, Manga Garden, Kitsuru Forward, Tate Close, Serenity Spa, Mitini Estate, Ngecha Estate, Lake View Estate, and neighbouring customers.Residents have been advised to plan accordingly, particularly businesses and institutions that rely heavily on electricity.

The Central Rift region, specifically parts of Kericho County, will also experience power interruptions. The affected areas around Ngoinaroad Market will be without power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Key locations include Ngoinaroad Market, Tulwet Boys Secondary School, Mosore Centre, Roret Boys, Reresik Centre, part of Roret Market, Mabasi Centre, Bakitra Primary School, Monoru, and nearby customers.

Mt. Kenya, Kisii affected

In South Nyanza, parts of Kisii County will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Numerous residential, commercial, and institutional areas will experience outages, including Gesonso Market, Gesonso Police Station, Iterio Complex, Suneka Market, Itibo Hotel, Kisii University, Kisii Polytechnic, Nyanchwa Ekerore, Tabaka Hospital, and many surrounding estates and markets. Kenya Power has emphasised that this will allow them to carry out maintenance safely and reduce the risk of unplanned interruptions in the future.

Parts of the Mt. Kenya region will also be affected. In Nyeri County, areas including Kwa Tailor, Waheire, Karia, Gitero, Muthuaini, Kagwathi, Tetu TVC, Muthuaini C/Fact, and Kiandere Market will experience power cuts from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, parts of Laikipia County, including Burguret and Guara, will have power off from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Areas affected include Nanyuki Airstrip, Anka Resort, Tambuzi Farm, Trout Tree Hotel, Aberdare Prestige Cottages, Tropical Timber and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power has urged residents and businesses to take necessary precautions during the outages, such as using backup generators and avoiding unnecessary electricity use. The utility company has also reminded customers that the maintenance work is crucial for sustaining a stable electricity supply across the affected regions.
