Two people are feared dead following a grisly road accident on Sunday, August 17, 2025, along the Nakuru–Kisumu highway.

The crash happened at the notorious Sobea blackspot and involved a private car and a transit trailer. According to witnesses, the victims a mother and her adult daughter, were travelling back to Nairobi after attending a burial in Kisumu when tragedy struck.Authorities have long identified the Sobea stretch as a danger zone, citing its sharp bends and heavy trailer traffic.

Despite numerous calls for caution, accidents continue to claim lives at the spot, making it one of the most dreaded points along the busy highway.

Residents and motorists who rushed to the scene said the smaller car was extensively damaged, with efforts to retrieve the victims proving difficult.

“The stretch has claimed so many lives, but drivers still underestimate the danger here,” said one boda boda rider who witnessed the collision.

Separate crash in Bomet

Authorities have urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, warning that recklessness and speeding remain leading causes of deadly crashes.
